There are a variety of activities you can explore with your kids at the Science Explorium! And best of all, they're free!

Grand Bug-a-Pest Hotel (Ages 5+)

Welcome to the Grand Bug-a-Pest Hotel! There are a variety of guests in our hotel. Some are long-term residents, and others come and go as they please. 

Not all insects have the same preferences when it comes to nesting materials or where they hibernate. Some like sticks and bark, some like leaves, or stones. Here are some examples of what bugs we hope to attract and what they like! The garden is accessible during park hours. Challenge sheets are available during Explorium hours.

Earthcaching (Ages 7+)

Test your GPS technology skills and outdoor field knowledge by participating in our Earthcaching program. Available during Explorium hours.  GPS must be returned half an hour before close.

Challenge Sheets (Ages 5+)

Take your visit to the Explorium to the next level by asking a staff member for a challenge sheet! No matter your age or grade level, we have a challenge for you. 

Challenge sheets are a FREE way to enhance your experience at the Explorium during normal business hours. We have both indoor and outdoor challenges, so take your pick between the natural and physical sciences, and use your deduction skills to answer questions about our exhibits! Available during Explorium hours.

Grab n' Go Eco Packs (Ages 5+)

Calling all nature enthusiasts! Are you ready to set out on a self-guided tour of Sugar Sand Park? Wield investigative tools, hone your wayfinding skills, and complete an interactive Field Journal with this outdoor adventure kit. Due to limited quantities, there is a limit of 1 bag per family at a time.

The renter must be 18 years or older and provide a valid ID to be held during the time of rental. Packs are designed for individual use, or small groups of up to four (4) people. Available during Explorium hours. Packs must be returned half an hour before close.

Experiment Express (Ages 5+)

What’s that over there? It’s science in action! Catch us doing an impromptu demonstration at our Experiment Express Cart.

From precious stones to animal bones, our staff and volunteers are always excited to show you something new. Available whenever the urge strikes!
